This evolving climate not only affects our quality of life but also threatens food security—a cornerstone of societal stability and progress.
Agricultural biotechnology offers crucial solutions to counter these challenges. Through scientific innovation, we can develop crops that withstand water and heat stress, enabling them to thrive despite extreme weather conditions that would otherwise jeopardize local agricultural production.
At the Puerto Rico Agricultural Biotechnology Industry Association (PRABIA), our mission is to lead this technological frontier. We strive to ensure that Puerto Rico not only adapts to climate change but flourishes despite it. Biotechnology allows us to anticipate climate impacts and take proactive measures to safeguard and expand our food supply.
For instance, we have contributed to the development of plant varieties that are not only more resistant to prolonged droughts but also optimize water usage. These advancements enhance agricultural resilience in unpredictable weather conditions and provide a tangible path toward food self-sufficiency.
