Agronomy students benefit from the agreement between PRABIA and UPRM

Mayagüez, Puerto Rico – The Puerto Rico Agricultural Biotechnology Industry Association (PRABIA) and the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (RUM), joined forces to celebrate the 1st. agricultural biotechnology industry job fair. Agricultural science students will benefit for the first time from internship programs and employment opportunities within the research field to further their knowledge.

 

This initiative recently held in the Lobby of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences on the UPRM premises, will offer the selected students of the Campus the opportunity to work or participate in an internship in the companies that PRABIA brings together. The initiative, which promotes education and research in the agricultural biotechnology industry, also exposes students to new trends in the industry and technological innovations tempered in meeting the high demand for food that is coming in the next century.

 

“We are pleased with the success of this first job fair and the motivation of the students given the real opportunity to work on what they studied. PRABIA, by uniting with the academy, contributes to education with the firm purpose that these professionals stay on the Island and support the economic development of the agricultural biotechnology industry in our country,” said Beatriz Carrión, executive director of PRABIA. The research and development that is carried out in our companies places us before the eyes of the world and in parallel with those markets that have embraced science,” added Carrión.
