Who we are?

Founded in 1995, the Puerto Rico Agricultural Biotechnology Industry Association (PRABIA) is a beacon of innovation and sustainability within the agricultural biotechnology sector. As a nonprofit organization, we unite industry giants like BASF, Bayer, Corteva Agriscience, Illinois Crop Improvement Association, RiceTec, and Syngenta. 

Our organization aims to fortify the agriculture biotechnological ecosystem through rigorous seed R&D, not just on our home ground in Puerto Rico but globally, facing head-on challenges threatening our food supply and environment. Through our efforts, we are proud to contribute significantly to Puerto Rico’s economy, offering over 1,900 direct and indirect job opportunities, nurturing educational programs, and paving the way for the next generation of scientists and agronomists.

Milestones Achievements


1995: PRABIA was founded, establishing a new era for agricultural biotechnology in Puerto Rico.
2000: Introduced the island’s first genetically modified crop, significantly increasing yield and setting a precedent for future innovations.
2005: Spearheaded a major environmental initiative, reducing agricultural waste by 40% through innovative biotechnological applications.
2010: Partnered with local universities to create scholarship programs to develop young talent in the biotech field.
2015: PRABIA launched Puerto Rico’s first Agro-Biotech Summit, bringing global attention to the island’s biotechnological advancements and research.
